Εποχές 2020 μπορεί να ζήσουμε στα Oscar 2022, μιας και υπάρχει μεν μια ταινία που σάρωσε σε σχεδόν κάθε κατηγορία με υποψηφιότητες, αλλά υπάρχει και ένα διεθνές άλογο, το Drive My Car. Όπως το Parasite το 2020, έτσι και η γιαπωνέζικη ταινία του Hamaguchi μπορεί να σοκάρει την Αμερική και το Χόλιγουντ, ιδίως όταν τα κινηματογραφικά βραβεία έχουν πάντοτε μέσα τους και λίγη δόση από πολιτική.
Σε κάθε περίπτωση, αυτό που είδαμε στην ανακοίνωση από την Tracie Ellis-Ross και τον Leslie Jordan, ήταν μια παρέλαση από το The Power of the Dog της Jane Campion, μια ταινία παραγωγής του Netflix, που μπορεί να πάρει για ακόμα μια φορά μετά το Roma του 2019, το μεγάλο βραβείο στα Oscar 2022.
Στις κατηγορίες των ηθοποιών έκπληξη ήταν η υποψηφιότητα της Jessica Chastain για το The Eyes of Tammy Faye και η απουσία της Frances McDormand, ιδίως από τη στιγμή που το The Tragedy of Macbeth έχει 3 υποψηφιότητες, η μία για Ά Ανδρικό με τον Denzel Washington. Για τον ίδιο λόγο προκαλεί απορία και η απουσία του Joel Coen από την κατηγορία της σκηνοθεσίας.
Δεδομένων όσων είδαμε και στις Χρυσές Σφαίρες, είναι έκπληξη ότι δεν έχουν υποψηφιότητα οι δύο νέοι του Licorice Pizza, ο Cooper Hofman και η Alana Heim, όπως και η απουσία του Bradley Cooper και της Cate Blanchett για το Nightmare Alley. Στις ηχηρές απουσίες και η μη υποψηφιότητα της Marlee Matlin για την ταινία CODA, όπως και της σκηνοθέτιδος Sian Heder από τα Oscar 2022.
Δείγμα πάντως του μεγάλου ανταγωνισμού φέτος, είναι η παρουσία 10 ταινιών στην κατηγορία για την Καλύτερη Ταινία. Κι αυτό οφείλεται τόσο στο Drive My Car όσο και στο Belfast του Kenneth Branagh που εμφανίστηκε από το πουθενά και έφτασε να έχει 7 υποψηφιότητες. Εκτός από το The Power of The Dog, αξίζει να αναφερθεί πως το Dune του Villeneuve πήρε την ανταπόκριση που του άξιζε με 10 υποψηφιότητες στα Oscar 2022.
